Documents set the way the law deserves.

ASTRAEA renders court documents with the care of a fine press — following the principles of Matthew Butterick's Typography for Lawyers, in the typefaces he designed for legal work.

Built on Matthew Butterick's work.

Our document typography follows the guidance in Typography for Lawyers and Practical Typography by Matthew Butterick, and renders in his typeface families — Equity, Concourse, Triplicate, Valkyrie, Century Supra, Heliotrope, and Advocate.

These fonts are licensed for rendering documents on the platform — they are embedded here to show the result, not offered for download. If you draft legal documents, buy the fonts and read the book from the source.

What we apply automatically.

The editor and the render engine enforce the details lawyers are told to fix by hand.

A real text face
Documents are set in Equity — a serif drawn for legal text — not the system default, at a readable size and measure.
Small caps for headings
Section headings use true small caps (Equity Caps), not stretched all-caps.
Curly quotes & proper dashes
Straight quotes become typographic quotes; hyphens become en and em dashes where they belong.
One space after a period
Sentence spacing is normalized to a single space — the modern typesetting standard.
Tabular figures
Docket and case numbers align in columns using the fonts' tabular figures.
Jurisdiction-correct layout
Margins, font size, spacing, and the caption follow the rules of the selected court.

Filings that look like the law means it.

Draft in the editor, render to the court's exact format, and file — the typography is handled.
